STEPS

Steps—Claire Richards, Faye Tozer, Ian ‘H’ Watkins, Lee Latchford-Evans and Lisa Scott-Lee—are the UK’s most successful mixed-sex pop group of all time. Since forming in 1997, they have achieved 14 UK Top Five singles, four UK Number One albums, 22 million record sales, more than 500 million streams and 11 sold-out national arena tours.

The group first burst onto the pop scene with their unmistakable debut single, 5,6,7,8, before beginning an extraordinary run of hits that made them one of the defining British pop acts of their generation. Their extensive catalogue includes the Number One singles Heartbeat/Tragedy and Stomp, alongside enduring favourites such as One for Sorrow, Last Thing on My Mind, Better Best Forgotten, Love’s Got a Hold on My Heart, Deeper Shade of Blue, It’s the Way You Make Me Feel, Chain Reaction and many more.

Steps’ original run produced a succession of multi-platinum albums and spectacular live shows before the group went their separate ways in 2001. A decade later, they reunited for the Sky documentary series Steps Reunion, which became the channel’s highest-rated original programme of 2011. The reunion was accompanied by The Ultimate Collection, which entered the UK Official Albums Chart at Number One, and a major sold-out arena tour.

In 2017, Steps celebrated their 20th anniversary by releasing their first single in more than six years, Scared of the Dark, which reached Number One on the UK iTunes chart. Their acclaimed comeback album, Tears on the Dancefloor, followed in April, reaching Number Two on the UK Official Albums Chart, topping the UK iTunes chart and earning a Gold certification. The campaign also produced three BBC Radio 2 A-list singles.

The year culminated in the 22-date, sold-out Party on the Dancefloor Tour, which played to more than 300,000 fans in arenas across the UK and Ireland and became one of the biggest pop tours of the year. The group continued touring throughout 2018 with the extensive outdoor Summer of Steps tour.

Steps have since continued to release successful new music while introducing their trademark sound to a new generation. In 2020, they released the Sia-penned single What the Future Holds, followed in 2021 by Heartbreak in This City, a collaboration with Michelle Visage. Both reached Number One on the UK iTunes chart.

Their albums What the Future Holds and What the Future Holds Pt. 2 each reached Number Two on the UK Official Albums Chart and led to the spectacular What the Future Holds Tour, which visited arenas throughout the UK in late 2021.

In 2022, Steps celebrated their 25th anniversary with a major programme of headline summer concerts and the release of The Platinum Collection. The album debuted at Number One on the UK Official Albums Chart, making Steps one of only four groups—alongside ABBA, The Rolling Stones and Stereophonics—to have achieved Number One albums across four consecutive decades.

Steps’ music has now also made the leap to the stage. Here & Now – The Steps Musical, produced by Steps themselves alongside ROYO and pop legend Pete Waterman, received its world premiere at Birmingham’s The Alexandra theatre in November 2024. Written by Shaun Kitchener and directed by Rachel Kavanaugh, the original musical enjoyed an acclaimed, extended run before embarking on a major UK and Ireland tour. The production played more than 250 performances across the UK and Ireland during 2025 and 2026.
